Our Patronal Festival
celebrating our patron saint, St James, is celebrated
early in July. St. James’ day is actually July
25th, but we celebrate him a little early before people
go away on holiday. Patron saints are saints who were
chosen as special protectors or guardians over certain
things like occupations, illnesses, churches, countries,
causes, in fact, anything that is important to us. See
our St James page.
After the service, there is a
family shared lunch, often a barbeque in the Vicarage
garden or sometimes there has been a picnic in the Park
instead. Various activities take place after the shared
lunch, such as bell-ringing in the tower, badge-making
and other activities for the children, a Parish Treasure
Hunt, and 'Beating the Bounds' where parishoners (of
all ages) take to their bikes (of all types) and ride
around the boundary of the Parish of St. James. It is
a fun packed afternoon for all the parishoners.
