| Readings |
Please sit for
the readings
Either one or two readings from the Scripture precede the
Gospel reading. At the
end of each the reader says
|
| |
This is the word of the Lord. |
| All |
Thanks be to God. |
|
Two members of the
congregation go the lectern and read passages from the Bible,
normally one from the Old Testament and one from the New Testament.
These readings from the Bible are an important part in our worship.
At the end of the each reading, the reader says 'This is the word
of the Lord' because God has been speaking to us through the readings.

| Gospel Reading |

A hymn or psalm may be sung |
|
A hymn is sung to
greet the Gospel, which is a story about Jesus, or a story Jesus
told. Towards the end of the hymn, the Gospel Book is carried
to the centre of the Nave. |
|
When the Gospel
is announced the reader says
|
| |
The Lord be with you. |
| All |
and also with you. |
| |
Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus
Christ
according to N. |
| All |
Glory to you, O Lord. |
| |
|
At the end the reader
says |
| |
This is the Gospel of the Lord. |
| All |
Praise to you, O Christ. |
|
At the end of the hymn we turn
to face the place from where the Gospel is read, if we can, and
to stand while it is read. We do this because these are the words
of Christ and so are treated with the importance they deserve. |

| Sermon |

The preacher talks to us. This
talk is sometimes based on the readings or about what is happening
at this particular time in the Christian Year. |

We believe in one
God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from
Light,
true God from true God, begotten not made,
of one being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
he became incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin
Mary and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered
death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven and
is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the
dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come.
Amen. |
|
We stand to say the
Creed which declares the important things that we, as Christians,
believe in. The word Creed comes from the Latin word credo,
which means I believe. The Creed is the
basic statement of Christian belief and is in three parts.
The Creed actually describes the Trinity and is therefore in three
parts. We acknowledge our
believe in God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

Accept these prayers for the
sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen. |

This
is the time when we pray for others. We pray for the Church all
over the world, the Queen, people in authority and our community.
We pray for peace among nations. We pray for our family, friends
and neighbours, people who are ill, in pain, sad, lonely or in
need. We also remember those who have died. |
