WELCOME TO ALL VISITORS

St. James's Church

St. James's is the Anglican Parish Church of Hampton Hill, Middlesex.

Liberal Open to new ideas and possibilities with a critical eye to the past and present, and generous in our attitudes.
Catholic This literally means ‘universal’ and so we recognise our setting in the wider world and Church, and value the past as well as being concerned for the future.
Eucharistic Our principal act of worship is the eucharist and we explicitly acknowledge Christ present in the world with all this entails for Christian living.

What services are there?
There are regular Sunday services and also other services, some of which take place regularly every week or every month and some just occasionally. See the Services page for details.
All the services are entered into our on-line church Calendar/Diary and on the website's home page.

What will happen when I arrive at the church?
When you first arrive, you'll be greeted by a member of the congregation who will give you a service booklet, hymn book and notice sheet. Please ask them for help should you need it. Near the entrance you will find a table with information leaflets about the church, welcome cards, the Spire magazine, etc. Just help yourselves to this information. You can sit anywhere you wish.

The beginning of a service

What happens during the service?
Have a look at the page Parish Communion where you will find the layout of a typical service. Here the service is broken down into small steps, each of which has explanations and photographs. The same can be found for the once a month All-age Communion service which is aimed at families and our associated uniformed groups.

What facilities are available for children during the service?
There is a children's corner for both children and their parents which is well equipped with books and toys. Children who are old enough are encouraged to join in with the service by using the illustrated booklets made for this purpose. Just pick one up from the information table near the entrance, but please return it at the end of the service.

Parish breakfast

What happens after the service?
After every Sunday service we invite everyone into the hall for parish breakfast - tea, coffee or juice and biscuits. This is a very good way of meeting and getting to know people, especially for those new to the church.

What does St. James's Church believe?
The Church of England website says:
Christian life is lived in relationship with God through Jesus Christ, and in common with other Christians in the Church seeking to deepen that relationship and to follow the way that Jesus taught.

For Christians God is understood and known as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Father… God is love, caring for creation and for every human being as God's beloved child.
Son… God is as he has revealed himself to be in the historical person of Jesus Christ. Jesus' life, death and resurrection holds the key to knowing and loving God, and to making sense of life, before and after death.
…and Holy Spirit… God is alive, loving and active today, inspiring faith, justice and truth, sustaining the life of the world, giving spiritual gifts to the church and bearing his spiritual fruit in the world - changed lives and a transformed society.

St. James's Church stands in this tradition.

When is the church open?
Apart from when services are taking place, the Parish Office, in the west porch, is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings.

How does the Church interact with the local community?
It plays an important role in the community of Hampton Hill in two different ways. One is by the clergy and lay people going out into the community, ministering to the parishioners, visiting the sick or housebound, going into the local schools, etc. The other is by opening the church and encouraging people to come into our midst. The church itself is a major focus in the local community. The layout of the church, its fine acoustics and the facilities of the adjacent hall all make St. James's an excellent venue for a variety of events much used by local schools, community organisations and other music-makers.
