"In church on the evening of
Passion Sunday, we heard the debut of the stunning new chamber choir,
The Apocalypse Singers, conducted by Chris Hodges which added a delightful
dimension to the music at St. James's. |
|
The Service for Passiontide in Music
and Words included Allegri Miserere, the Passion by Victoria and works
by Lassus and Purcell. The choir demonstrated their skill in unaccompanied
singing of 17th century music, particularly notable being the setting
of the Passion by Victoria and 'I am the Resurrection' by Orlando Gibbons.
The balance and beauty of tone was truly memorable. Bruckner, Victoria and Gibbons, together with readings and a meditation. We look forward to more." Source: The Spire Magazines - 2000 May and August |
