The Beginning of a Prayer Group - 1950 April

Hampton Hill Parish Magazine

"During the Mission to London the Rev. Marcus Donovan mentioned prayer groups as one of the many ways of strengthening parish life.

Since that time, six of us have been meeting regularly (except for a few weeks last summer) and have prayed together for this parish, for people known to us to be sick, and for other parishes, people and interests which we have wished to hold up to our Lord’s blessing in our prayers. We have read together and have talked over what we have read. We know that these meetings now mean a great deal to us: we have grown very close to each other, and we value this fellowship.

We have gained so much from these prayer group meetings that we wonder if others in the parish will like to join us. We meet every fortnight on Monday evenings at 8 o’clock in one or other of the homes of the group members.

We give each other news of the people and concerns for which we have been praying since our last meeting. A member then leads the prayers for the evening. Subsequently we discuss a chapter (we have been reading “When Ye Pray”, by Dom. Bernard Clements) which we have read before coming to the meeting: (we hope!).

We have a great and sincere love for our group, and would like it to grow. We would welcome new members and the new ideas they will bring with them. The Vicar will willingly put anyone interested in touch with us."
