"In consequence of the unusual severity of the weather, which has thrown so many out of work, and has caused much distress amongst the working classes, a soup kitchen has been opened with a view to mitigating as much as possible the suffering which prevails. |
A subscription list has been opened for the purpose
of enabling the managers to sell at about half the prime cost of the
soup. A Committee Meeting was held in the Vestry on Christmas Eve,
at which The Vicar, Miss Barnard, Messrs. H. P. Bowling, W. C. B.
Hall, 0. Lambert, and Rev. S. N. Waterhouse were present. It was decided
to carry on the soup kitchen on the lines upon which it had been commenced.
Tickets were voted to be distributed free to the District Visitors.
Tickets will also be given to subscribers who wish to have them to
the amount of half their subscription, and these may be given away
without restriction." |
