"The Lord Bishop paid his first episcopal visit to the parish on Friday, July 17th, when 112 were presented to him for confirmation. |
The neighbouring parishes, Hampton, Hampton Wick, Hampton Court, Shepperton, Upper and South Teddington sent candidates, and some nine or ten came from S. Mary Magdalen, Paddington, and other more distant parts. The Bishop confirmed each one separately, and a verse of a hymn was sung whilst each set of confirmees came from and returned to their seats. The Bishop’s address was plain and practical, and well calculated to go home to the hearts of those who had just declared their allegiance to our Heavenly Master, whose blessing they were seeking through the ‘laying on of hands.’ The day was bright and pleasant, and a large congregation filled the Church."
