What do Guides
do?
Being a Guide is all about learning new skills, making new friends and helping others. They are encouraged to achieve their own personal goals through a progressive programme with the opportunity to work for a wide variety of badges.
Meetings follow a varied programme which is planned by the guides and their leaders together. Activities have included wiring a plug, making a snack meal, arts and crafts, cooking over open fires, entering a team in the Borough Youth Quiz, camping, climbing and tobogganing. Members of the 3rd Hampton Hill Guides join the Brownies, Scouts and the St. James's congregation for the All Age Services that take place on the first Sunday of each month, carrying their flags in a colourful parade through the church. Sometimes they act as sidespersons, read lessons, say prayers, assist with Parish Breakfast and so on during the Services.
Guides are aged between ten and fourteen, although some Guides like to stay until they are older. Any girl over the age of ten can become a Guide as long as she is able to understand, and wants to make, the Guide Promise. The Guide Promise The Guide Law |
