3rd Hampton Hill Guides

Brownie/Guide Logo
Members of the 3rd Hampton Hill Guides join the Brownies, Scouts and the St. James's congregation for the All Age Services that take place on the first Sunday of each month, carrying their flags in a colourful parade through the church. Sometimes they act as sidespersons, read lessons, say prayers, assist with Parish Breakfast and so on during the Services.

What do Guides do?
Being a Guide is all about learning new skills, making new friends and helping others. They are encouraged to achieve their own personal goals through a progressive programme with the opportunity to work for a wide variety of badges.

Guides work together in Patrols, groups of six to eight girls, providing a ready-made group of friends and helping them to feel that they belong to something special. They elect their own Patrol Leader. A Patrol plans its own activities with the support of the Guide Leader so that each Guide learns to share in decisions that affect herself and others in the Patrol.

Meetings follow a varied programme which is planned by the guides and their leaders together. Activities have included wiring a plug, making a snack meal, arts and crafts, cooking over open fires, entering a team in the Borough Youth Quiz, camping, climbing and tobogganing.

Who can be a Guide?
Guides are aged between ten and fourteen, although some Guides like to stay until they are older. Any girl over the age of ten can become a Guide as long as she is able to understand, and wants to make, the Guide Promise.

The Guide Promise
I promise that I will do my best:
To love my God,
To serve the Queen and my country,
To help other people and
To keep the Guide Law.

The Guide Law
The Laws are:
A Guide is honest, reliable and can be trusted.
A Guide is helpful and uses her time and abilities wisely.
A Guide faces challenge and learns from her experience.
A Guide is a good friend and a sister to all Guides.
A Guide is polite and considerate.
A Guide respects all living things and takes care of the world around her.

Guides at work

When and where do Guides meet?
As a Guide, they meet regularly, usually once a week during school terms - on Tuesday evenings between 7.00 and 8.30 in the Church Hall.

Guide clothes
Each Guide chooses the top she wants to wear from the options available in the Guide wear collection. This choice allows them to be themselves but also makes them feel part of the unit.

Parents are welcome to come and help organise and run the meetings, or to share their skills with the Guides either on a regular or an occasional basis.
