3rd Hampton Hill Brownies

Brownies

" "
Members of the 3rd Hampton Hill Brownies join the Guides, Scouts and the St. James's congregation for the All Age Services that take place on the first Sunday of each month, carrying their flags in a colourful parade through the church. Sometimes they act as sidespersons, read lessons, say prayers, assist with Parish Breakfast and so on during the Services.

Being a Brownie is lots of fun and a great way of making friends. They can get involved in an enormous range of exciting activities and learn new skills such as first aid.

What do Brownies do?
They have fun! They can take part in indoor and outdoor activities. The meetings are action-packed and full of challenges, games and activities, often ones that they have suggested themselves. Everything a Brownie does is an adventure - it's a world of excitement, new interests and friends. Brownies belong to a Pack and work in small groups called Sixes. This gives them a group of ready-made friends to take care of them. It also makes them feel that they belong to something special.

They can work towards a number of badges either as a pack or as an individual. The badges vary from bellringing to dancing, from swimming to skiing - there is something to suit all of them. Some of the badges are staged so that everyone gets a chance to try the badge and then they can aim for a higher stage if they want to. During the summer they get out of doors and concentrate on outdoor cooking, badge work, swimming, bike rides and other outdoor activities. There are often opportunities for them to take part in special activities and events throughout the year. Many Brownie Packs go away on holiday, to camp or on an overnight sleepover.

Who can be a Brownie?
Brownies are usually aged between seven and ten and a half, although some Brownies stay in the unit until they are a little bit older.

Any girl over the age of seven can become a Brownie as long as she is able to understand, and wants to make, the Brownie Guide Promise.

The Brownie Promise
I promise that I will do my best:
To love my God,
To serve the Queen and my country,
To help other people
and
To keep the Brownie Guide Law.

The Brownie Guide Law
A Brownie Guide thinks of others before herself and does a good turn every day.

When and where do Brownies meet?
As a Brownie, they meet regularly, usually once a week during school terms - on Tuesday evenings between 6.00 and 7.15 in the Church Hall.

Brownie clothes
Each Brownie chooses what she wants to wear from a range of items - it is up to each of them to decide which items they like. This choice allows them to be themselves but also makes them feel part of the Pack.
