Meaning
Easter
The most important Christian festival celebrating the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Falls on or between 21 March, and 25 April. See the page Easter.
Easter Vigil
The Easter Vigil, dating back to at least the Roman times, takes place on Holy Saturday. It is a service held in many Christian churches as the official celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. See the page Holy Saturday.
Electoral Roll The church's Electoral Roll is the register of its voting members. See the page Electoral Roll.
Epiphany
Remembers the coming of the wise men, Magi, (traditionally named Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar) bringing gifts to visit the Christ child, who by so doing 'reveal' Jesus to the world as Lord and King. The season of Epiphany extends from January 6th until Ash Wednesday. See the page Epiphany.
Episcopal
Pertaining to a bishop. Episcopacy means the government of churches by bishops.
Epistle
A letter, many written by St. Paul. Part of the New Testament.
Eucharist
An act of thanksgiving and the central act of Christian worship - the religious rite or ritual in which consecrated bread and wine are offered to individuals by a priest, to commemorate Christ's last supper. Another name for Holy Communion, Mass, or the Lord's Supper. See the page Holy Communion.
Evensong
An evening service, often with hymns and a sermon.
