St. James's Day and Official Launch of Our Website - 2000 July
|
|
25th July was St. James's
Day - our Patronal Festival. Bishop Michael of Kensington preached at
the Parish Communion.
The collection taken at the service was donated to Jerusalem 2000. The Archbishop of Canterbury gave his support to this Millenium Appeal for the Anglican Diocese of Jerusalem, which covers a large area of the Middle East. The slogan for the appeal is '£1 can make all the difference'. This is a particularly appropriate collection for St. James's Day as our Patron Saint was the leader of the Church in Jerusalem. There was then a shared lunch in the Vicarage garden, a Parish Treasure Hunt and a 'Beat the Bounds' where parishoners (of all ages) take to their bikes (of all types) and ride around the boundary of the Parish of St. James. |
Immediately after the
service Bishop Michael officially launched this website watched by members
of the congregation. Prill and Martin Hinckley gave a brief 'tour' of the site projected onto a screen, interrupted by the computer taking upon itself to freeze up midway! Prior to the launch, Brian thanked John Inglis on behalf of St. James's Church for his input into the creation of our website and also for the magnificent community website of Hampton-Online. |

John was presented with
a watercolour of the Church painted by Prill. Brian then thanked Gordon Stowell, who was also present, for his humourous cartoon illustrations that appear on the website pages. He also thanked Prill and Martin for all their work on the website. |
